In order to sustainably supply new polypropylene and high-density polyethylene production facilities built within the SOCAR-Polymer Project in Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park with raw materials and energy carriers in accordance with the relevant quality and quantity indicators, Azerkimya PU's EP-300 plant Modernization and reconstruction work has been started in stages to produce targeted products, and the project is now in its final phase.
According to SOCAR, the Italian office of the world-famous Technip company was involved in the project in 2016 as a licensor and general contractor. Upon completion of modernization and reconstruction projects, Azerikimya's actual production of key products will double, some products will triple, the plant's service life will be extended by at least 20 years, the reliability and efficiency of existing facilities will increase and high quality competitiveness meets modern standards. There will be a guarantee for the production of products.
At present, 4 new pyrolysis furnaces, dry gas treatment plant, ethylene and propylene storage facilities, hydrogen production and enrichment and PPF treatment plants have been built at Azerkimya within the project (Phase 1). Reconstructed, a new automatic control system was introduced at the plant.
On August 5, the Ethylene-Polyethylene Plant of the Azerkimya Production Association was shut down due to the commissioning of the EP-300 unit in a new configuration. During this shutdown, all construction and installation work is expected to be completed and adjusted as part of the reconstruction and modernization project. Immediately after the plant resumes production in October, the new facilities are expected to be commissioned in stages, and thus the current project will be completed in the 4th quarter of 2020.
As a result of the modernization work, it is planned to increase the design capacity of the Steam Turbogenerator from 32 MW / h to 65 MW / h. For this purpose, an additional turbogenerator is installed and the existing technological system is improved. Also, due to the internal resources of Azerkimya PU, the old high-voltage substation is being completely rebuilt by moving to the territory of the Ethylene-Polyethylene Plant.
Upon completion of the project, the demand for 32 MWh of electricity received by Azerkimya PU from Sumgayit Electric Network (in EP-300 and Polimir-120 units) will be fully met. The excess 33 MWh of electricity generated by the unit will be delivered to SOCAR via the network. will be able to transfer to other enterprises of the city, as well as to other consumers of electricity in Sumgayit.
At present, 65% of the work on the project has been completed and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2021.
Recently, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev visited the Ethylene-Polyethylene Plant of Azerkimya Production Association and gave relevant instructions to complete the modernization, reconstruction and repair work in accordance with the schedule.
It should be noted that one of the main objectives of the modernization project is to provide the plants of the new SOCAR Polymer complex built in Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park with ethylene, propylene, pure hydrogen and energy carriers in a stable mode and in the required amount. The raw materials used for production at SOCAR's Azerkimya PU are supplied directly from another SOCAR enterprise, the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery. The average number of employees in the project was 2,000 people per day, about 95% of whom were local specialists.
